Laporta intends to start a new stage that will bring Barca back to the top. The presidential candidate aims to win the Champions League in the near future.

"If Messi says 'no' to staying, we will take it with the technical area and we will have to move on. It will not be an impediment for us to also make a very competitive club and start a new stage that will take us to the first line of sport worldwide," presidential candidate Joan Laporta has told El Pais.

"When I speak of motivating the players to win again and win well, it is so that the success story of Barca returns with the 'Champions' that began with my mandate and that we have to recover that. We have to make decisions to win Champions League titles again."

Messi's contract at Barcelona expires next summer and, according to recent reports, he's yet to make a decision on his future as he's only focused on the current season. It's said that Leo staying at Camp Nou will heavily depend on who wins the upcoming presidential election
